Support my Skip for Heart challenge to help save Aussie hearts.
This November, I’m challenging myself to 79 skips a day (or more!). I’m doing it to support heart health, and in honour of the 79 Australians whose lives are cut short by heart disease every day.
This cause has become even closer to my own heart as just 4 weeks ago my husband was found to have a 95% blocked Left Arterial Descending artery which was perilously close to devastating our lives forever. This type of blockage is known as ‘the widow maker’. Despite having few known risk factors or family history, heart disease had taken hold with barely any symptoms. Since his cardiac emergency, a non-standard non-Medicare blood test for LP (a) has exposed that he has always been in the 98th percentile for extreme risk of heart disease. I want to bring awareness of LP(a) (also known as the evil twin of ‘bad cholesterol’, and for which there is no treatment) to as many people as possible.
